OBS Studio notes describe how to install the OBS Project desktop app on Windows. The publisher is the OBS Studio editorial team, an Organization. A mailbox, when a form is present, is for errors in those notes and for questions about those notes. It is a notes mailbox, and it is not an OBS Project helpdesk, and it is not a mailbox for a named individual. Who publishes: about.

Fallback when email is empty

There is no public email address on the guides. Report a factual error by writing down four facts: the URL that is wrong, the sentence as it stands today, the official source that disagrees, and the sentence that source supports. Put those four facts in the report form when a form is present. If no form is present, keep the four facts until a form ships. Skip attachments. A dump of local recordings is not required to fix a sentence about winget.

How to report an error

If a command, filename, install path, or claim disagrees with the README, winget-pkgs, or GitHub Releases, send a correction with four facts:

  1. The URL of the OBS Studio note that is wrong.
  2. The sentence as it stands today.
  3. The official source that disagrees: the README, a GitHub release asset list, microsoft/winget-pkgs yaml for OBSProject.OBSStudio, obsproject.com, or a vendor page such as streamlabs.com.
  4. The sentence that source supports.

Usual drift: the winget id OBSProject.OBSStudio, the full command with -e --id, the default file OBS-Studio-*-Windows-x64-Installer.exe, the portable zip name, Nullsoft machine scope, %ProgramFiles%\obs-studio, or local record with no account the README actually supports. How sources are chosen: editorial policy.

Paste the winget command only as a check against the note, not as a new package:

winget install -e --id OBSProject.OBSStudio

Product bugs

Crashes, encoder faults, capture misses, and virtual camera problems belong on github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues. That tracker is the project's. The editorial team can fix a wrong filename in a note. Patching the desktop app itself stays on that tracker. Include the current release tag from GitHub, the Windows version, and whether you used winget or the x64 installer. A feature is claimed only when the README lists it. There is no personal GitHub account for the guides.

Fetch stays on GitHub Releases or winget. Links from obsproject.com are supporting hops to the same GitHub files. A wrapper site that promises a verified exe on some other domain is still a wrapper. Walkthrough: download safely.

Questions about install notes

Questions the notes can answer: which file on the current release, winget versus the x64 installer, installer versus portable zip, where App Installer comes from, and whether a local recording needs an account. Start with home, GitHub, releases, how to install winget, move off Game Bar, and guides.

First-run habits and machine notes sit on for this computer. Project help for the app itself sits on obsproject.com/help and the GitHub wiki.
